Journalist Eric Black is a senior writer for MinnPost.com, where his work has appeared since January 2008.
Before 2008, he reported and wrote for the Star Tribune for 30 years until taking a voluntary buyout in June of 2007. For most of those years, he was part of the national/international news desk. His specialties included political coverage, pieces that provided historical context to issues that were in the news, and, during his last couple of years with the paper, a blog called The Big Question on the Strib’s website.
Black graduated from Oberlin College with high honors in 1973, worked on two Arkansas newspapers before joining the Star Tribune in 1977, and received two fellowships that take journalists out of the newsroom for a year. He spent one of them working as a congressional aide on Capitol Hill, and the other studying history at Stanford University.
He has written five books, about the U.S. Constitution (1987), the Cold War (1988), the Arab-Israeli conflict (1993) and primers on the conflicts in Northern Ireland and Bosnia.
He has won several journalism awards, and, although they are not too numerous to mention, they are too dinky to mention.
He is married to the lovely Lauren Baker and is father of two brilliant children, Rosie and Danny.
