The Star Tribune has a story on a recent campaign-related flier by two "pro-traditional family" organizations that comes awfully close to violating federal law prohibiting endorsement or opposition of particular candidates. The flier identified the positions of openly gay Sen. Paul Koering and his primary opponent and then noted that: "GOP primary voters have a clear choice between a candidate who supports gay civil unions and one who is committed to protecting marriage."
Hmm, it might not say "vote against Koering," but people aren't dumb and neither is the federal government. It will be interesting to see how this plays out, especially in an environment where there are so many groups involved in elections, from nonprofit 501(c)3 organizations to 527s.
