On Friday, September 28th, Dr. Arthur Reynolds, Professor at the Institute of Child Development, U of Minnesota, developed 8 points:
- Close to one half of achievement gap is present at school entry
- High-quality pre-school programs can close a large part of this gap
- The Child-Parent Center Program (initiated in Chicago) is an exemplar for improving success
- Intervention that extends into the primary grades can strengthen learning gains (PK-3 program)
- Learning experiences after intervention make a big difference
- The State of Minnesota greatly under invests in early education
- Evidence is increasing that state-funded prekindergarten programs improve school readiness
- (The State should) Establish a state prekindergarten program that follows key principles of effectiveness
